Another eventful day. Joshua had an allergic reaction to the rice cereal made with his formula. The reaction seems to be a contact rash because it only appears whenever the milk formula actually touches his skin. At least, that's what we've observed. Joshua started scratching his face like before and scratched at his left eye too which made it pink. We rinsed him off really well and prayed that his rash would calm down.

Joshua seems to love his rice cereal otherwise. He leans in toward the spoon, and he tries to grab the spoon which ends up splashing the cereal everywhere.

Noah loves saying "no no no" (I assume he's copying us LOL!) and so we tried getting him to say "yes" instead. He did it a few times and it's very cute. He likes sitting in his old LeapFrog exersaucer. He's too big to stand in it, so we plop his butt down inside the seat part instead. He can't move or get out and he loves it. He stayed sitting in there for a good 45 minutes while Chad & I finished installing the windows. LOL!

Noah knows how to open the gate that blocks the stairs now. We tried clamping it shut, but he gets around that somehow and knows how to slide it open, too! In fact, I can’t find one of the clamps that he took off. He’s getting too smart. He’s also learned how to flush the toilet. So, now we have to keep the bathroom doors closed now, too.

We gave Joshua a lovey today to start to sleep with. It’s a blue version of Noah’s. It will be interesting to see if he latches on to it like Noah has latched onto his. Right now, Joshua will self-soothe by putting his left hand up to his mouth. He won’t suck on it or do anything else. It’s just next to his mouth. It’s really amazing how quiet and calm he’ll get as soon as he does that.

Joshua turned over from his back to his belly – his 1st time! We didn’t see it, but Chad found him on his belly when he got Joshua up from his nap.

I set up Gammie with 4 bottles of breast milk/soy today. I don't want to give Joshua any milk formula if Chad's not there. I wouldn't want anything to happen if Chad's not there, and I'm sure Gammie wouldn't want that extra pressure either!

Joshua ate his cereal really well last night. I think it helps that we warm it up. Sheesh, that boy is so picky about the temp of his bottle AND his food. ;) He was actually opening his mouth when I was feeding him which was new. The only thing is that he likes to suck on his wrist between bites and then rub his face, so the formula was getting everywhere. It's funny. Chad & I were laughing.

Joshua has been up early in the morning crying from teething, so we’ve been putting orajel on him gums the last couple of mornings. I still don’t feel any teeth yet.

So, it looks like Tuesday was my last day of pumping. I did it at work and got only 3 oz. after a whole day and a half. I was planning to pump last night, but was so tired. Then, this morning, as I was gathering my stuff for work, I looked at my pump and decided not to take it. And now that I’m at work, my girls are feeling a bit full and thinking I should have brought my pump. I’m feeling guilty for leaving it at home.

It’s been over 6 mos and still no Aunt Flo. Just this week, I woke up to 3 pimples and I’ve been so tired lately. I’m hoping these are PMS symptoms and that AF will show up, esp. since I stopped pumping.

I was so tired today. Chad was a sweetheart and took care of the boys so that I could sleep in. And then after breakfast (which he cooked), I went upstairs and took a nap! I would have probably taken another nap in the afternoon if we didn’t have a small group bible study to get ready for.

Joshua sat up by himself for the longest time today – at least a minute I think. He’s still folded over a bit (kinda tripoding), so he’s not straight-backed yet. But I was surprised he did so well.

Noah says “ball” so well now. The “l”s aren’t pronounced very clearly yet, but you can definitely tell he’s saying “ball”. He hasn’t been eating very much lately, is drooling more than usual and gets cranky every so often, so we think he may be teething.

Joshua got 1 oz. of milk in his first 2 bottles today, and 1-1/2 oz. of milk in his last 2 bottles. No reaction! Happy parents! Now, if we can get him through this teething...

My legs hurt today after our 5K yesterday. It's not bad. I can't imagine what Chad feels like after finishing a triathlon!

Chad made an appt today with the urologist for his big “V”! Apparantly, the procedure is that both the husband and wife have to be at the consultation, so that both know the “consequences”. Sounds backwards to me. They should be consulting people about HAVING kids rather than NOT having kids. Anyway, Chad’s going to schedule the actual procedure for after his triathlon in August, so that he can continue training (rather than have to miss training because of the mandatory down time for recovery).

Joshua had 1 oz. of milk in each of his bottles today. Chad said he’s done great! Yay, Joshie!

We had our 3rd annual 5K this morning. Sue came with us and we all had a lot of fun. Chad pushed the boys in the burly trailer. Joshua didn’t love being in there, but he was kinda cranky from us waking him up at 6:30 am this morning. Chad had to keep moving around. That was the only time he would settle down.

Our goal each year is to beat the previous year's times, so we ran on the downhills. It was my first year not being pregnant, so I felt energetic! Our time was 42:37, beating last year by over 7 minutes. Crap, but now that means we have to run every year now! Chad says soon, we’ll be running the whole way…great. :P

We got home and had a BBQ to celebrate Memorial Day and Joshua’s ½ birthday. He’s 6 months old today. We fed him solids (rice cereal) for the first time. He didn’t love it and didn’t swallow much. Most of it got pushed back out with his tongue. Chad tried again later that night and Joshua ate a little better. We’ll keep practicing with him.

I was so tired today that I didn’t pump at all. I’m a tired, poor excuse for a mom.

I took the day off work so Chad & I could see the new Indy movie. I really wanted to love it, but I didn’t. I hated the “cheats” (like when they cut out the stunt scenes – why? Harrison could totally handle it!) and didn’t care for Karen Allen in this one (she looked REALLY old) or the Shia’s Mutt character. I didn’t hate it like I hated the second movie, but I’m sad there won’t be any more good Indy’s to add to my collection of the first one and the third.

Vivian met the boys and me at the Spectrum today. We went so that Noah could play in one of the water fountains there. He wasn’t into it today. He played for little while in the water, but enjoyed chasing the birds around just as much.

I pumped only twice today by accident. My mid-day session was cancelled when I was too tired to stay up and just wanted to nap when the boys went down this afternoon.

Noah says “daddy” really well now and it sounds so cute. Sometimes, when I ask him to say “mommy”, he’ll say “daddy” instead.

Joshua started crying at 6 am. I was tired, but I got up to play with him. We went to breakfast and then headed home. Chad called us while we were just reaching Victorville. He finished in about 4 hours, a little slower than he wanted to be, but it was 102F in Temecula. He was beat.

Chad got home just before 5 pm…yay! He was wiped out, but still managed to help me entertain the boys for most of the night. It was still really hot and a little bit too warm in the boys’ rooms when I put them down for the night. So, at about 8:30 pm, we closed up the house and turned on the a/c. Chad couldn’t sleep either because it was too warm. It felt much better after a little while.

We drove to Vegas for Mark’s sushi party tonight. Chad took the day off, but stayed home to get ready for his triathlon tomorrow. So, it was just me, the boys and Mama & Papa who went. Lani was already there for a work thing.

The first 45 minutes of the drive went well…until I got pulled over for speeding! Stop #1. Crud, I haven’t been pulled over in years. Thankfully, the CHP girl gave us a firefighter’s “professional courtesy” and didn’t ticket me for speeding. However, she did ticket me for the missing front license plate and the tinted front windows. Grrrr.

Just after Baker, Joshua started fussing, so we exited to change his diaper. Stop #2. It was only wet. We got back on the road.

Then, about 45 minutes before we reached Vegas, we saw an accident happen a few cars ahead of us. It was very scary. There was a motorcyclist that got flipped and ended up on his back in the dirt & brush in the center of the highway. Joshua had been crying for his bottle, so we stopped at state line to feed him. This was Stop #3. It was turning out to be a very eventful day.

We finally arrived at the Garcia’s house. It was just after 12 noon. We got there in 4 hours which surprised me since we (got) stopped 3 times.

After lunch, Noah & I went to meet Trudi & Riley from BabyCenter at the Town Center shopping center. (Joshua was still sleeping, so I left him at home. I’m glad because it would have been too much to handle both boys, especially in the heat.) It was great to meet the Carabios in real life after talking to Trudi online all this time. Riley is adorable. It was an outdoor mall and it was so HOT. There is a cool children’s park, but unfortunately the water fountains weren’t working, so the kids didn’t get any reprieve from the heat. I was so bummed. Noah would have loved to play in the water. We went shopping for a little bit and then said goodbye. Noah conked out in the car which didn’t surprise me. Between the heat and the time of day, I knew he’d be tired.

Mark’s sushi party was fun. Noah had fun playing in the shallow section of Mark’s pool with Uncle Nanie & Auntie Lin. Joshua just hung out as usual and then decided to poop all over me. It was the worst mess ever. I had it all over my WHITE shirt because I didn’t know his diaper was dirty. His clothes were a mess, too. I didn’t pack any extra clothes for any of us, so we had to go back to Auntie Lin’s. I put Joshua in his car seat naked and I borrowed a t-shirt from Mark.

We ended the day playing Guitar Hero and a bunch of other games on the Wii.

Chad continued giving Joshua milk-based formula in his bottle today. But Joshua started getting hives again, so he didn’t get any more after that first bottle. :( Not sure when we (read: Chad) will try the milk-based stuff again.

I'm dropping down to pumping just 3x/day. I'm still getting decent milk, so I'll keep it up as soon as I can.

Chad increased the amount of milk-based formula in Joshua’s bottles today. He added an additional ounce of regular formula to the 8 oz. of breast milk/soy blend. Joshua drank most of it. He’s been finishing the 8 oz. bottles without a problem, but I guess 9 oz. is a bit past his limit. I'm surprised that he gets 8 oz. down consistently. It's a lot for a little tummy!

I’m relieved Joshua seems to be fine with the milk so far. At the very least this hopefully means we won’t have to worry too much if there’s a little bit of milk in anything. Maybe it was just too much of a shock to Joshua's system when I tried giving him straight milk-based formula a couple weeks ago, and that’s why he had a reaction. Time will tell as we slowly increase the milk and decrease the soy.

    Comments:
traci:  Good luck! =) I hope you guys get off easy and it turns out to be a one-time reaction instead of an actual allergy! =)

Chad put a “trace” amount of milk-based formula in Joshua’s bottles today. I held my breath waiting for his allergies to start. But there was no sign of a rash or hives, thank goodness. Joshua did seem a little fussy after the first bottle, however, which is unusual for him.

We all went into the jacuzzi for the first time today. Yep, I’d never been in the Jacuzzi before - and we've been living there for over 2 years already. Chad is the only one who’d been in it, and those times were only to clean it or splash some water out of it when it overfilled. Chad warmed it to "bath water" temp. It only took about half an hour. Noah had fun. Joshua just hung out. The bench part is the perfect depth for Noah to walk around on. He lost his footing a couple times and went under for a few seconds, but he recovered well each time, no coughing or sputtering. He definitely knows to hold his breath under water. Yay, Noah!

Chad and I talked about cutting back on the milk pumping sessions since 1) I’m getting tired of it, 2) since Joshua will be 6 months old in less than a couple weeks and 3) since we’ve got a LOT of frozen that we need to start using. I’ve been pumping 4x day, once for each time Joshua is eating. I’ll start cutting back when I can figure out a good schedule a work (ie, find new times that the Mother’s Room is available).

Day 2 of Turbo Jam. I did the “20-min. workout” tonight. After yesterday’s workout, I’m already feeling some back muscles.

Noah has 2 more teeth coming in – they’re his canines on the bottom. You can just barely see the one on the right. The one on the left is harder to see, but you can definitely feel it. Those two will bring up his tooth count to 16! Just 4 more until he has a full set of baby teeth.

Well, it’s the 13th...3 days past the 10th which is when I expected to have Joshua completely on soy rather than breast milk. However, to my surprise, my milk supply (although diminished) has been maintaining. So, better to use it than lose it! I’ve actually had to freeze a lot lately, too, since Joshua only needs 12 oz. day/while he’s still on the “blend”.

My Turbo Jam DVDs arrived! Woo hoo! I wasn’t expecting them until Friday, so I got to start exercising earlier than expected. I did the beginning “Learn & Burn” workout. It was an easy, fun intro. And, surprise, one of the girls on the DVD is one of the instructors that I used to take from at 24 Hour Fitness! I thought she looked familiar! She's totally cut, and will be a great inspiration for me.

    Joshua's 4th night in a row sleeping well again...yay!

I got into my first pair of pre-maternity pants today without having to rubber band the waist! It was cold and rainy outside, so I thought I’d try...and I squeezed them on to my surprise.

I can’t wait to get my TurboJam DVDs. They should be here by Friday. My plan is to try and do at least the 20-min workout each night before showering and my last pumping session. It would be great to never have to wear my maternity clothes again and to be in my regular clothes by the summer. I would love to donate my maternity clothes now to another friend who is expecting. :)

    Comments:
Uncle Bruce:  Donating them to a friend is a great idea. Aunt Lorene used to pass the clothes and furniture back and forth between her and her sisters. Then when they were through we started to pass then on to the nieces. Then they passed stuff back to us as grandma and grandpa. That was a real money saver. With kids you need all of those kinds of ideas you can get. Good luck with the TurboJam. As disaplined as you are it should be no problem. [GRIN]

Mother’s Day! We had an incredible brunch at the Hyatt Newporter with both our moms, thanks to Lani. She was staying there for a work event and treated us all. They had the biggest strawberries I’d ever seen and the crème brulee was so yummy! We had crab legs and sushi and waffles and crab cakes egg benedict. It was all sooo good and we all stuffed ourselves.

Chad had brought me some pretty yellow tulips, a cute card with Noah's "signature" and Joshua's drool (haha!) and got me a 4gig memory card for my camera. Woo hoo!

On the way home, we stopped by Katelyn’s first birthday party at the park near her house. She looked so cute and loved her birthday cake!

When we got home, Chad crashed. He hadn’t been feeling well since coming home this morning, so he laid down for a nap and never got up. We laid the boys down for a nap, too, but they didn’t rest for long. Joshua started crying first, before I fell asleep. I tried to let him CIO, but then Noah woke up hearing Joshua cry. :( I wasn’t very tired, so I got up. Both of them had dirty diapers, so I changed them and brought them both downstairs to play. We were up for the rest of the day and tried to keep quiet so that Daddy could get some rest. Chad slept the entire day into the night. He was tired!

Yay! Joshua didn’t wake up at all last night! My alarm went off at 7 am, and I was happily surprised that it wasn’t my son’s crying that got me up.

Oh my goodness, I definitely have a boy. Noah loves getting off the couch, or his chair, or anything high…head first! Ayayay! I try to stop him, but I’ve come to realize that it’s no use, and…that this is just the beginning.

Noah also loves cars. He could play with them all day. It’s cute how he makes vroom vroom noises when he pushes them along.

He’s also starting to push the furniture around again. He used to do it a lot, but had stopped. Now, he’s pushing around the bar stools and his high chair. He gets so frustrated when they reach the carpet and won’t slide any more.

Oh, and Noah is 21 months old today!

Joshua has been sleeping pretty well at night, no peep from him at all...that is, until about 5:30 am the last couple of mornings. So, I’ve been rubbing orajel on his gums and then he’s back to sleep. I sure hope those teeth come out soon. I still can’t feel anything though.

Joshua was coughing a lot today and Gammie said that he actually threw up a lot of his milk/formula because we was coughing so much. Poor little guy.

The Booger Brothers return. Both boys and I are sick. I stayed home today from work with a sore throat and congested/runny nose. Gammie came this morning as scheduled and stayed and watched the boys for most of the day so I could sleep. I wasn’t feeling all that better by the end of the day, but at least I was well rested and not exhausted. It felt great to nap all day.

Joshua was so cute bouncing in his jumper and actually fell asleep in it. He was snoring by the time I got his last bottle warmed and ready to eat.

It was my last day of supplements for lactating. I finished the fenugreek pills today and I finished the mother's milk drops this past weekend. It's all me now, no more help.

Joshua did alright last night without the “dream feed”. He cried for only a couple moments and then went back to sleep. The cardboard barriers that Chad installed in his crib seem to work well. But Joshua still managed to put his left foot up and over it, so it was resting up there between the slats when I checked in on him in the morning.

It’s Joshua’s 2nd day in the jumper and he’s already starting to jump in it! It’s amazing to see him progress so quickly.

I learned how to caulk today to help Chad finish the windows. It was kinda fun. The worst part was squeezing the caulking gun because it was kind of stiff and cumbersome. But the windows look good if I do say so myself!

Joshua had been refusing to latch on to nurse the last couple of nights, and he wasn’t latching on at all today except for once early this morning. My nursing days are over. I can’t believe Joshua doesn’t even want to nurse for comfort any more. I’m sad that it’s ended so abruptly.

Joshua seems to be doing ok on the soy formula. We are trying a new schedule for him today, too, and cutting out the “dream feed”. So, he’s getting 4 8-oz. bottles each day – about ½ soy, ½ breast milk.

Chad put the jumper up for Joshua to try today, and made sure it was Noah-proof for when Noan hangs on it and wants to swing his brother around. Joshua seemed to enjoy his first try in it.

Chad started working on installing 4 more of the downstairs windows. He already put 2 in. Noah was in the garage and started pushing around the stroller and then wanting to sit in it. So, I loaded him up and Joshua and we took a walk around the neighborhood and then down to the park.

Noah can sign bread and shoes now. He’s learning so fast!

We are going to increase Joshua’s soy by 1 oz/bottle each day until he’s totally on soy. We're also increasing the amount in each bottle to 8 oz. Today all 4 bottles have 6 oz. breastmilk and 2+oz. of soy.

I hope Joshua will be ok transitioning to soy this way. This means he’ll be on full soy by May 8. I hope my milk holds out that long. My nursing days are numbered. I’m going to try to really enjoy these last few sessions as much as possible.

Thank you, Lord!!! Joshua slept the best so far in almost 2 weeks! He cried for just a moment on 2 different occasions, but then went right back to sleep. I was so surprised, then relieved, and then thankful! We didn’t have to get up once to put orajel on his gums. Woo hoo! And we knew we weren’t going to have to pull his legs out of the crib slats anymore because Chad attached a few pieces of cardboard to his crib, so that Joshua’s legs couldn’t slip out. Yay, Daddy!!! Sleep is a wonderful thing!

Chad was Mr. Mom today and tried giving Joshua soy formula. He mixed in 1 oz. of soy with 6 oz. of breast milk in each of his 4 bottles. Chad said he did great and finished all of them with no reaction. Thank goodness.

Chad also said that Joshua turned over more times today. But this time, for the first time, Joshua turned over his left shoulder. All his previous attempts were over his right. Chad gave Joshua a bit of help by wedging Joshua next to the couch on his right side. So, really, all Joshua could do was turn the other way if he really wanted to...and he did!

Chad took the boys to the park this afternoon. Chad said that Noah went down on the little slide all by himself! It was a day of firsts for the Thompson boys. Noah also had a lot of fun on the swing as always and Chad was making faces at him as he swung back and forth. Noah was laughing and then Joshua was laughing at Noah laughing. Chad said it was super cute.

I started reading about milk allergies. From what I've read and heard, it's one of the most common and most babies grow out of it. Let's hope Joshua's one of them! I hate to think of Joshua not being able to eat anything dairy. No kid should be deprived of ice cream. ;)

    Comments:
Uncle Bruce:  Jason was allergic to cows milk and dairy products. There are many solutions to this issue. Especially the ice cream one :)for him if that is the case Aunt Lorene can provide lots of information on that if you want.
