Noah & I went to the pumpking patch today. Unfortunately, Chad was working, so he couldn't join us. And the pumpkin patch closes today, so this was our last opportunity. We wanted to all go together, but lost track of time because I had gotten sick earlier in the month and then the fires...
We took a bunch of pictures while we walked through the pumpkin patch, took a tractor ride and visited the petting zoo. I think Noah had fun.
We went home, so Noah could get a nap (he was so tired he fell asleep in the car - I thought he would) and then met Traci & KJ2 back at the pumpkin patch later that afternoon. This time, they were both in their Halloween costumes. Noah was Yoda and KJ2 was Princess Leia. They looked too cute together. The pumpkin patch was practically empty when we were there. In the morning, during our first visit, the place was crawling with kids. There must have been at least 10 school busses parked in the lot when we arrived.
Later that night, Noah & I went to the Haan's for their annual Halloween block party. All the neighbors sit around the driveway with their buckets of candy ready to hand out to the kids. And we all bring food and eat the night away. It was a fun day.Comments:traci: Thank you for taking us to the pumpkin patch! It was so fun, and I am so glad we got the pictures!!! =) May the force be with you!Add a comment:

Baby "B" is doing great. I had my first bi-weekly fetal monitoring session this morning. He/she was moving lots and the nurse said the baby was very happy. I think he/she likes toast for breakfast. It's the second time the baby was doing really good. The one time he/she wasn't moving so much (and actually fell asleep during the session), I had had a bagel. So picky already! ;) The nurse said that if all her babies today looked as good as Baby "B", she'd be very happy, too.
How many of you dare me to wear the same comfy black pants ALL WEEK?!?! I wore these yesterday, washed 'em last night and am wearing them again today. I'm so tempted to wear them on Thu/Fri, too. Haha!! I did not want to put pantyhose on today.Comments:sara: Are you wearing black pants today?...standy by I'm coming to your desk!!!!Traci: Another happy baby - yaay! My last week of work!! WOO HOO!!! Only 4 more days of wearing panty hose! Actually, I'm wearing the most comfortable pair of black pants today. Traci thankfully loaned me more of her maternity clothes. I'm so much bigger than I was last time and can't even fit into my maternity pants from before.
Comments:Traci: Those pants are the best! Anytime you need BIG CLOTHES, you know you can call me, I've got your back, girl! I was the hugest pregnant woman ever to walk the earth! LOL ;-)Add a comment:

Noah & Chad were having so much fun together tonight. I love watching them play. That's all I can seem to do lately...watch. I'm too tired to do anything else. Chad has so much energy normally anyway.
Noah has a gym that plays music when he presses the button, and he likes dancing to it sometimes. Well, he started dancing and Chad began dancing with him. Chad would pick up his leg and freeze in that position. Well, Noah started picking up his leg and holding it up in the air, too. It was too CUTE!!! Chad says Noah's a little sponge right now.Comments:traci: THAT IS ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS! I HAVE TO SEE THAT ON SUNDAY! I CANT WAIT!Auntie: What? No video?!?! Teency, you're slacking.Add a comment:

I got my first look of all the damage behind our house. That eye-sore of a water tower turned out to be a total blessing in disguise. I forgot there was a small access road surrounding it, so that actually helped shield us from the fire because it had to jump the road to ignite the brush directly behind us. In essence, we were the house with the least direct contact with the fire because of that water tower. The pump house did catch fire, but none of the brush since Chad had hosed all that down. Everything else around the water tower is completely black and gray from all the ash.
In Concourse Park, just around the corner from our house, there were helicopters landing and taking off from there all day. They had set up a refilling station for water drops and so it was quite a sight to see so much activity there all day. The black clouds of smoke on the mountains behind us kept growing and growing. We pray all the fires are completely out soon.
"The baby looks beautiful." That's what Dr. Kaminskas said. It was my 3rd appointment in a row this week. I have one more this week on Friday for my bi-weekly fetal monitoring session. I gained 2 more pounds over the last 2 weeks, so I'm just 2 pounds shy of my highest weight with Noah. Oh well, I'm over stressing about it now. I still have almost 6 weeks to go, so I've accepted that I'll be my biggest with Baby "B". Sigh... I'm measuring 33.5 cm so pretty much right on track.
Noah was still napping when I was leaving for my dr's appointment, so Chad stayed home with him and I went by myself. Noah ended up sleeping about 3 hours! We usually don't let him sleep that long, but he has been a little sick. I wonder if it's more having to do with the fires and all the smoke though 'cause I took a 2-1/2 hour nap, too. I usually never nap that long. In fact, Chad had to wake me up to get ready for my dr's appointment. He was still exhausted from the whole fire ordeal, too, and should have slept with us. But he was too anxious to chop down more trees behind our backyard. He loves that chainsaw of his.
Anyway, after Noah woke up, my boys met me at CostCo to help my shop. As Chad was leaving the house, he saw lines of cars waiting to get back into the neighborhood because police were checking IDs. I told him that I saw them, too, when I was leaving for my appointment. Oh, well, we both thought "can't turn around now".
So, we went to CostCo, and started driving home. It took us AN ENTIRE HOUR to get up our hill on Glenn Ranch because of the ID checks. ONE HOUR to go a HALF MILE! ARGH!!! I have no idea why the police decided to start checking IDs now. They should have started doing it on Monday when the fires were in our area! That so didn't make sense to me. Anyway, we ended up with half frozen food and warm milk by the time we finally got back to our house. So annoying.
We were supposed to start our church small group tonight for "40 Days of Purpose", but decided to cancel as we were sitting in all the traffic. We thought that no one would want to go through all this to get to our house...and even if they did, the police probably wouldn't let them through because they didn't live there.
The air is even thicker with smoke now. It's really stiffling. The skies are all gray - no blue anywhere. Ash will collect on your car as you are you stopped at a red light. We're all coughing now and congested. We've had the house sealed up since Monday and it still smells of smoke.
Comments:traci: STOP STRESSING ABOUT THE WEIGHT! YOU LOOK GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!! This is the last time you will be pregnant, enjoy it! Stop stressing!!!Add a comment:

Thank you to everyone who has called & e-mailed us and generously offered their homes & assistance. We are so blessed to have you all in our lives. We are all safe and will be back together in our own home tonight. Please continue to say prayers to keep everyone safe from all the fires around So. Cal.
In a nutshell... Chad's our hero! He saved our house!
For those with the time, here's the loooong story...
What a day yesterday! It started off great. It was Mom's birthday, and she had a lunch planned at the house. So, Lani & I carpooled there and stuffed ourselves. When I was back to work, I found a tiny speck of blood when I used the restroom. I left a message with my OB, and they called me back suggesting I go to L&D (Labor & Delivery) within the hour to be checked out. I left work about 5 pm to go to the hospital. So, even if we didn't have the fires to keep an eye on, Chad & I had to cancel our family birthday dinner plans for Mama. :( Chad asked his family to come over to our house to watch Noah & keep an eye on the fires, so that he could be with me. (Earlier that day, he had about 20 people over watching the fire. We have a great view of it from our backyard. He & his buddy were drinking beer and he joked that it was a party and that he was going to order pizza for everyone. I told him I hope we're still laughing at the end of the week when all of this is over!) At about 6 pm, Chad met me at the hospital and we ended up staying there for a while. Chad was on the phone with his family a couple times keeping tabs on the fire. I even got a call from our neighbor who lives across the street who was currently in China and was worried when he heard about the fires. After about 2 hours of monitoring and a shot of terbutaline to slow the contractions, I was finally discharged. Yay! (This baby is not fully cooked yet and I'm not ready for he/she either!)
At about 8 pm, Chad & I were on the road driving home from the hospital. Neither of us had eaten dinner, so we planned to stop somewhere on the way home. But L&D took so long that Chad just wanted to get home to the fires. Coming inland on El Toro at that time of night, you couldn't miss all the flames in the darkness. Cars were parked on each side of Glen Ranch and people were up and down that street just being looky loo's. Chad said cars had been lined up like that all day. And the traffic was bumper to bumper from that point all the way up to our house because people were driving so slow to gawk and try to find someplace to get a better view. UGH. Two police cars were just starting to tell people to get back in their cars and go home.
Once we finally did get home, you could see the flames creeping over the ridge from our backyard. The view was unbelievable from our bedroom window. Chad wanted us out of the house for the night, so Chad's sister Carrie took Noah to their house down the hill from us. Chad said didn't want to worry about our house and me, so he wanted me to evacuate, too. I took a shower, packed clothes for work (plus a few days just in case) and gathered our computer, hard drives, pictures... I was really tired and the terbutaline was making me a bit jittery as the nurse said it would. I didn't want to leave, but I needed to get away from all the smoke. As I was loading the car, big pieces of ash were starting to fall everywhere. Two firetrucks were already parked just a couple homes away on the very top of the hill.
Just after 10 pm, as I was getting ready to leave, Chad had his fire gear on and hooked up the fire hose that he had stored in the garage just for this sort of emergency and got ready to fight the fire. Our brother-in-law Rick (Carrie's husband) and the neighbors were helping, too. I kissed Chad goodbye. As I started driving down to Carrie's, I started crying. At Concourse Park around the corner, there were more firetrucks and a ton of people watching all the commotion. The police were just starting to clear everyone from that area, too.
At Carrie's, Noah & I were in Nathan's room. Noah was already fast asleep when I got there, but I tossed and turned and prayed. I couldn't sleep and couldn't stop smelling smoke. Thankfully, Noah was able to sleep. He was coughing a little throughout the night and snoring lightly. I kept hearing him suck his thumb and grabbing for his "lovey" and fidgeting a little, too. At one point, I snuck a peek at him and saw him sleeping on his knees with his okole up the air. It's so funny to see him in that position, but he seems to like it 'cause we find him like that a lot. I got up at about 3:30 to use the restroom and Carrie was awake still, too. She gave me the great news that Rick had just got home from fighting the fire at our house. He was exhausted and sleeping now. The pump house next to the water tower had burned down, but our house was safe. Thank God! Chad was still at our house watching for embers. After that, I still couldn't sleep. The smoke was irritating my throat and I was still congested from the flu last week. I started journaling hoping that would help me sleep since I thought maybe all the thoughts going through my head were keeping me up. I wrote on the back of my discharge papers from the hospital - by the light of my cell phone so as to not wake up Noah - and finally fell asleep at about 4:30 am. The alarm at 6:30 am came too soon.
I had to go back to the hospital this morning another monitoring session. I have to go them 2 times each week until the baby is born - 6 weeks left. It was 7:30 am, and I really wanted to stop by our home to see Chad before leaving, but I didn't want to wake him. I was sure he was still fast asleep, exhausted from working so hard and being up all night.
I was excited to get a call from Chad as I was leaving my doctor's appt at about 9 am. (Everything looks great - the baby is head down, his/her heart rate looks good, and my fluid levels looked good, too.) Here's what Chad said happened: First thing he did was remove all the furniture, the pool gate and anything else in the backyard that could catch fire. Our kind neighbors across the street let us store it all in their garage. (Chad said it's going to take a while for him to put everything back together again. Plus, he needs to wash away all the ash that has fallen so it doesn't get tracked into the house.) The fire ended up coming right up to our backyard. The pump house next to the water tower directly behind us caught fire. (For some reason, when Carrie told me this news in the middle of the night, I had in my head that it was the actual water tower that burned, which Chad would have LOVED. He hates that eye sore in our backyard. ;) So, I dreamed that the space that was now open behind our house was huge and that we had a great view now that the tower was gone. And I dreamed that the fire had exposed a great outdoor patio / built in barbecue - something else Chad has been day-dreaming about - and that the he & his buddies were all celebrating with a big cook-out and were having a party. Haha!) Chad said the pump house catching fire was pretty intense. He said he inhaled a lot more smoke than he wanted to when that structure went up. Thankfully, the fire didn't get to our house 'cause Chad had doused the brush just below us (where Noah's tree was planted) with a ton of water. He said the fire would have been a lot harder to contain if that area went up. Everything else was gone though. Chad was still keeping an eye on the pump house as of 3:30 am, making sure all the embers were fully out. Otherwise, it could've lit up again. He said he finally went to sleep at 4:30 am - funny that's the time when I finally dozed off, too. Chad said it's like a moonscape behind our house. The fire was a lot more intense than he expected it would be. But we don't have to worry about another fire for about 10 years because everything is completely gone. There's nothing left to burn.
Thank God we are all safe. I keep thinking how amazing that Chad was scheduled off this whole week and was available to be there for me at the hospital and available to protect our home, too. Just another incredible example that God has a plan and his timing is perfect.

Mama gave Noah his first experience with the piano. She sat him up on the bench and he had fun pounding on the keys. After a short while, she turned the "player" part on and so the piano started playing on its own. Mama said Noah stopped pounding on the keys and just stared at his hands, as if thinking "how did I do that???" Too cute!
Comments:traci: Now THAT is FUNNY! I would have loved to see his little face!Add a comment:

Noah likes bran flakes! We've been feeding him "cereal" for breakfast (a small chunk of banana with each spoonful of milk) since he's not drinking much milk from his sippy cup. And that's the best way for us to make sure he's getting at least some calcium. And so I've been having cereal with him. But mine has been bananas with bran flakes. He kept pointing to the box, so I gave him one to try. He liked it and kept eating more and more. I was so surprised. He likes that better than Cheerios. The nutrition is much better with the bran, but it has more sugar. I'm ok with that.
After breakfast, we played in the living room. I realize that he likes playing on the couch because he likes being up higher. He was playing with all the toys he could from on the couch. He did not want to go on the floor. And when he does end up on the floor, he cries.
He's starting to hug his little puppy toy. And he'll move his feet like he's dancing or bounce up and down while sitting when he hears certain songs playing from his toys. It's totally cute.
His nose is still really runny. I hope he gets better soon. He's had the runny nose for weeks now. We have him scheduled to get a flu shot from Dr. K next Tuesday. I'm glad because I would hate for him to feel even a fraction of what I felt this past week. Awful.Comments:Add a comment:

Noah has been sick with a running nose and some sneezing. And so I bought him some Puffs tissues, so that I would wipe his nose raw. Well, good this I bought them for Noah 'cause I ended up using them more. Yep, I got the flu, big time. Figures I'd get the flu when just days before I could've gotten the flu vax. Work offers free shots, but the nurse wouldn't give it to me because I was pregnant. I had it last time when I was pregnant, so I don't know why I couldn't get it this year.
Anyway, I was so miserable. The worse day/night was Monday. It hit me hard and fast. I finished what I needed to at work and left a few hours early. I had a light dinner, showered and was in bed by 8 pm. That night, I thought I was going to die. My throat was even more sore. I was congested and sneezing and had a runny nose, too. During one of my middle-of-the-night runs to the bathroom, I got the chills. That was the worst feeling. Thank goodness Chad was home to warm me up. I'm so thankful he was there to comfort me and take care of me. I so wanted the electric blanket, but he said I needed to break the fever.
I had to call in sick to work on Tuesday and Chad called in sick, too, so that he could take care of the baby and me. I was in bed and slept all Tuesday. I drank about 2 gallons of orange juice and only got up to eat a bowl of chicken noodle soup at dinner. All that rest did me good. Each day I was feeling a little better. I was scheduled to stay home through Thu anyway to take care of Noah while my parents were on vacation. So, I didn't go in to work until Friday, which was just right. I still wasn't completely well. But I felt soooo much better.Comments:Add a comment:

Noah's been getting up at 6:30 am! UGH! I woke him up at that time on Monday to drop him off at the Haan's since they were watching him until Chad got off work.
And Tue/Wed/Thu this week, he's been waking up at 6:30 am, too. I hope it's not a new time for him! That means he's sleeping 11 hours now, instead of 12. I was so hoping to sleep in today, too, especially since Chad went back to work and so today I was on my own watching Noah. Thankfully, I am feeling better. But I am still sick and didn't have much energy and would've loved to have slept more today. Oh well, that's being a "mom", right?Comments:Add a comment:

It's Noah's 14-month birthday today. He's showing signs of being very needy and wanting to be held all the time. But I don't want to encourage that, even if I wasn't pregnant and could carry him all day. He'll get fussy (dare I say "throw a tantrum?") and keep crawling to us and pull up and stand looking up at us with his cute, little face. But we don't give in. We can usually distract him pretty well with another toy.
He's so good at pushing around his mailbox toy and can manuever it pretty much anywhere now. He doesn't need our help to turn it at all.
Noah is a good imitator, too. He likes copying the sounds that we make and he can do them pretty well. It's totally cute. He hasn't officially said any words yet, just a lot of babbling still.
He seems to show some understanding of words. He'll "turn the page" when I ask him to at storytime. He'll press the button on his butterfly when I say "music". He'll clap when we say "clap your hands". It's exciting to think he knows what we're saying.
We are still using sign language whenever possible, but Noah hasn't used any to "talk" to us yet. I'm hoping he's getting it.
He's eating 3 meals a day and we don't give him his milk separately anymore. For one, he won't drink it all at once like he did his formula. But he'll sip at it throughout mealtime. So, we just feed him and try to keep offering his sippy cup to him until he drinks some of it. His pediatrician says it's normal and doesn't want me to worry about how much milk he is getting, just as long as Noah continues to thrive.
Mama had a good idea to give him his milk in a bowl of cereal like a big boy. So, we'll cut up a banana and throw in a few Cheerios and make sure he gets a big spoonful of milk with each little piece of fruit or o's. That seems to be working really well. He loves yogurt, too, so hopefully that helps compensate for the milk he's no longer drinking.
He's still sleeping really well 11+ hours/night, plus 2 naps during the day.
I had my 2-wk appt at the OB today. All is good. I'm measuring on schedule. I gained 1 pound. Not bad! But I'm still only 4 pounds away from being my heaviest (when pregnant with Noah). Think I can gain only 4 pounds in the next 8 weeks? I don't think I can.

My poor husband. I know I've been snoring lately. Well, I should say, a lot MORE lately. I've been waking myself up actually 'cause it's so loud. Good thing he normally sleeps with a pillow over his head. But I know it's not drowning out all that lovely, feminine sound.
It was really hard for me to breathe last night. I felt like I couldn't take a deep breath. This baby must be pressing down on my lungs 'cause I had to really concentrate to get enough oxygen. I started to freak out a little.
I'm ready to have this baby out of me. But we're not ready as far as everything else goes.
I get some side stitches on the right side when I walk. It's not like I'm walking fast or for very long either.
I still have 4 weeks of work to go. My problem before was having to decide what was worse: wearing pantyhose all day or wearing pants that are way too tight. Now, I can't even wear my pants, so I suffer with the pantyhose for 12 hours a dya, 4 times a week...UGH! That's WHEN I can get them on. It's a challenge to do just that! And then I have to buckle my shoes on. For the last few months, I've been down to two pairs of heels that are the most comfortable and those both have buckles...figures.
On the positive side, no carpal tunnel...yet! No swelling feet...yet. Just a few nights they look a bit puffy, but they go down by the morning. No leg cramps...yet. I'm hoping I can completely skip all of that this pregnancy. No heartburn either.
That's all my venting for now. Thankfully, Chad's been sooo wonderful and understanding despite all my complaints. I am so blessed to have him. I don't think anyone could be as sweet and positive having to deal with me. ;)Comments:traci: I hope some of the pants work out for you! I feel awful that you are so uncomfortable!!!Add a comment:

Noah had FOUR dirty diapers today. That's gotta be his record. Usually, it's two, sometimes three...but FOUR?! Holy moly!
Noah also started blowing kisses today. It's the cutest thing! He was also so giggly this afternoon. I think he was trying to make raspberry sounds, but couldn't. So, I made the sound over and over again and he couldn't stop laughing. I love when his smile is really genuine and so big and he can't stop smiling or laughing. That's what makes parenting sooo much fun! It was a very different mood earlier though when I got him up from a nap. He was sleeping longer than usual, so I woke him up. He was not happy. Luckily, his mood changes at every instant. He's still my cute, little bi-polar baby. ;)
Success! After 4 visits to 3 different Halloween shops (and countless hours on every online costume site there is!), Team Thompson now has their Halloween costumes! We're doing Star Wars this year. Noah will be Yoda, Chad will be Han Solo (I got him the light saber, too) and I will be a very pregnant Leia. ;) The costume is stretchy polyester, thank goodness. The wig with the buns is funny. Noah looks so cute in just the yoda ears. I can't wait to try the whole costume on him! The Chewbacca costume was pretty dang cute on him, too. We're planning to do this theme again next year and have Baby "B" be Yoda and then Noah can be Chewy maybe. Gotta make the most of these costumes. They ain't cheap...even though they look it. Haha! I guess that's what makes it "better" - the cheesy-ness.Comments:traci: If Baby B is a girl, next year she can wear Kate's Princess Leia if you want...you can have your own little mini-me! heehee!!!!Add a comment:

Noah is getting really good at turning his new push toy! He had spent the last couple nights at Mama & Papa's, so he hadn't had any time to "practice". But we got him home today and he's already controlling it like a pro! It's amazing to see him learn so quickly. We have a smart little boy!

Noah's 7th tooth is finally here. It's on the bottom left side of his mouth, next to the two he already has in the center. I wasn't sure if it was a tooth or not. It looked white, but I could never feel anything. Now, tonight, I can! No wonder he's been drooling so much.

While I was at work, Chad finished the second coat of primer! So, all we need to do now is paint on the color - once we decide what color!
I bought Noah a push toy today to help him walk. He couldn't wait to play with it when Chad was assembling it. It's smaller than his high chair, so it's easier for him to maneuver around. And you can adjust the tension of the wheels, so he doesn't go too fast while he's still learning. He can turn a little bit, but we still need to help him around the corners and when he gets stuck against the wall. He looks so cute pushing it around.
After putting Noah to bed, Chad & I put Baby "B"'s crib together. It was quite an accomplishment I think since we didn't have any directions and just had a bunch of crib pieces and hardware. We figured it out together though without too much trouble. After the crib was done, Chad hauled the other pieces of furniture (2 dressers and a nightstand) upstairs and set-up the room. We now need a lamp, changing table and rocking chair.
We decided that this "new" room is "better" than the nursery (nicer view, vaulted ceiling, walk-in closet), and agreed that Noah would probably want this one instead. So, we're going to move him into this new room and decorate it with planets and solar system stuff. I think the solar system would be cool 'cause the ceiling is so high that would could hang some big planets from up there. Mama said Noah is lucky 'cause he gets an "upgrade"!
So, Baby "B" will be in the nursery with Nemo. If it's a girl, we can add Little Mermaid stuff like we planned if Noah turned out to be a girl.Comments:TRACI: what a great idea! i am so excited to see both rooms!!! i hope you post a video of noah with his new walking toy soon, i cant wait to see! =)Add a comment:

Wow, I can't believe it's October already! It seemed like September just started. 5-ish weeks to go left at work before my maternity leave starts!
I bought Noah a walking toy this afternoon. I hope he likes it! He loves walking around with his high chair, but it's so big and cumbersome. Chad & I have to help him steer it because he can't do it himself. We hope he's able to manuever this one pretty well on his own.Comments:Add a comment:
