Team Thompson

October 2006

Troop Thompson had a fun and busy Halloween weekend! Check out all the pictures in the photo section. We went to the pumpkin patch and bought 3 pumpkins for each of us to carve (Daddy carved Noah's - it turned out so cute!), had a birthday tea for Mama Gube, and went to Auntie Carrie's and Uncle Rick's on Halloween night. It was great family time all around.

I feel so bad! I got frustrated with filing Noah's finger nails, so I tried using my regular nail clippers. I think the baby clippers are much scarier/dangerous to use! Anyway, all was going great...until I got to his last finger, actually his right thumb. I must've have grabbed some skin 'cause Noah cried out when I started pressing down for the cut. Oh my gosh, I felt horrible for hurting him! Thankfully, there wasn't any blood. I don't think I broke the skin. But it was really red and apparantly very sensitive 'cause Noah kept pulling his hand away each time I tried to get a closer look. My poor son. Noah was VERY forgiving, and didn't cry other than that one squeal. Mommy needs to take a baby nail clipping class! Sheesh, there's gotta be a better way. Anyone?? Bueller??? After we recovered from that trauma, Noah and I ran some errands. First, we went to our wedding photographer's office and finalized our album - finally! We should get it by Christmas. Then we went to the Precious Hand & Foot company to get Noah's hand print (after the trial and error last Wednesday)! Those things are expensive! It was $20 for a little mini Christmas ornament. Well, it will be cute and priceless in the end for sure!

Little Monsters was fun! We all dressed in our Army costumes. Chad totally looked the part with his shaved head and one 18-year vet came up to thank him for his service. Yikes. There were more than a few people who thought we were actually in the service as we traipsed around Disney's California Adventure collecting treats. The best giveaway was a pair of Mickey pirate ears! ARRRR!!! Noah got his first carrousel ride. And I think that was my last. It was making me nauseous! Actually, Chad said he was starting to feel queasy, too. HAHAAH!

We have a photo shoot each year for our Christmas ho'ike (hula show). So, this year, Noah & I got to take pictures together. Unfortunately, Chad was working, so we couldn't do a family picture. Maybe next year! If anyone wants to come, the ho'ike will be on Sat 12/2 at 7:30 pm at Cal Poly Pomona. I'm teaching mainly now, plus I don't think I'll be able to fit into my costumes still, so I'll be in just a few numbers.

The Thompson family had a fun-filled day. Noah's first visit to Sea World was short and sweet. We saw the "Believe" Shamu show, saw the sharks, ate lunch and watched the dolphin show. We also met Daddy's friend Curtis from paramedic school before heading back up to the O.C. Daddy stuffed himself at the all-you-can eat sushi restaurant and then we went home. We bought a handprinting kit from Babies R Us because the hospital only gave us Noah's footprints and we want to remember how tiny Noah's hands are. Well, no wonder the hospital doesn't do the handprints anymore! Babies keep their hands clenched...DUH to us! It was a mess. We got the ink on his hand, but then we couldn't unclench Noah's hand without making ours a mess, too. Well, needless to say, we didn't get a handprint, only lots of smudges! Little did Noah know, we were going to "ink" him in more ways than one that night. We got a Shamu tattoo from Sea World, too, and so Noah got to be JUST LIKE DADDY for a day. Check out the pictures! You'll be glad you did! (Don't worry, babe. I didn't post the full body shots.)

We drove to Great Aunt Jan's & Great Uncle Roger's in La Jolla to spend the night before going to Sea World the next day. And guess what, SUE? WE GOT A FLAT TIRE! We had to change it at Aunt Jan's before we left for the park. I guess it's a THOMPSON thing! ;)

Noah's been smiling here and there over the past month of so. But I got a true "I'm happy" sign from Noah today when I got home from work. I was rewarded with one smile and then another and some cooing during the entire time I was saying "hi" to him. He must have missed me. ;) He's so darn CUTE! Chad said it must melt my heart, and he sure does! During his last feeding at 9 pm, Noah didn't eat at all. He just played the whole time. So, I was worried that he may get up in the middle of the night from hunger. He's been sleeping through the night for the last week now (which needless to say has been awesome) and I don't want that to end. Ever. Amazingly, he didn't wake up at all! In fact, I had to wake him up to feed him at 6 am. I know I keep saying it, but really he's such a good baby!

Noah is on a roll! It's been THREE nights in a row so far that he's slept through the whole night! He's such a good baby! But this morning, he got me. As I was burping him, I felt a warm gush of liquid on my legs. Yep, he pooped on me for the first time - the first of many I'm sure. Luckily, I had brown pants on. Unluckily, they were part of a suit I was wearing to work. That teaches me to get ready for work before feeding him. I didn't want to change my whole outfit, plus the suit is dry-clean only, so I just used a couple of baby wipes to clean up as best as possible. I threw his clothes and blanket and his boppy pillowcase (AGAIN) in the washer, and then went to work. The pants don't look too bad. You can only see the stains when you look closely. No one at work has noticed. But maybe everyone's just keeping quiet to save me from embarrassment...or laugh at me behind my back.

Noah is such a good baby! He must have heard Dr. Gali telling us that we can let him sleep through the night. Now that he's 2 months old, we can let him go longer than 5 hours between feedings. So, we tried it, and guess what? NOAH SLEPT THROUGH THE NIGHT!!! We put him to bed at 10:30 pm and I could hardly believe when I woke up and saw it was after 6 am! Yay, Noah! It was your 2 month birthday, but you gave Mommy & Daddy the gift of SLEEP! :)

Noah is 2 months old today! We celebrated by taking him to the doctors so he could get his first FOUR immunization shots! How wrong is that? It's for his health though, right? The poor thing cried when he felt each needle. He got 2 shots in the right thigh and 2 in the left. They bled some, too. It was so sad. Gammie held his arms still while the nurse gave him his shots. Thank goodness she came with me 'cause I didn't want to do that. Dr. Gali says Noah looks great. He's got a little bit of cradle cap, but that's all. I finally remembered to ask her about his PKU test results. No news is good news 'cause all the tests came out negative. Hooray! Noah's next appt is in 2 months when he gets more shots. Chad said no wonder kids don't like going to the doctor!

Noah turns 2 months old tomorrow. Chad works tomorrow, so we decided to take his monthly Nemo picture tonight. He's growing so fast. I had a dream the other night that he stood up and started walking! He's got a bald spot on the back of his head. I guess the hair gets rubbed off when he moves his head from side to side. He has started coo-ing and smiling which is totally cute. He outgrew his little mittens, so he's got a few scratches and small scabs on his face from his finger nails. It's so hard to keep them short enough. I cut his nails once with a nail clipper. That was so hard 'cause I was so afraid I was going to nick him. So, I bought little nail files, but filing takes forever. And how do you clean under their little finger nails? Noah's are dirty and I can't figure out how the heck to get under them to clean them. He's always got lint between his fingers, too. When we took off his mittens, his hands smelled so bad. Like old cheese. So, I guess it's good that he doesn't wear them anymore. His hands can get some air and he can start using them, too. Selfishly, I hope he doesn't start sucking his fingers. I don't want to have figure out how to make him stop!

Noah had his first visit to an amusement park today. It was Disneyland of course! We saw the new Jedi Training Academy show. It is so cute to see all the little ones get so into it. Too bad Noah's too little to participate. I know he'd love it. It's a great show, even if you're not a Star Wars fan. We took pictures in front of the Castle, at the big Mickey pumpkin on Main St. and in front of the sign for the new "Finding Nemo" themed submarine ride in Tomorrowland. That will be cool. It was a short visit, but not the last!

Carrie and I had a fun girls day today. Chad called it a "bang bang, then go to your happy place" day. Carrie's been wanting to shoot Chad's gun and know what it feels like, so Chad surprised her with a visit to the shooting range. We spent an hour there, getting stressed out & building up our testosterone, and then we went to the spa to relax & detoxify with a massage. Carrie was right - good thing we didn't do the massage first 'cause we needed to unwind after playing shoot-em-up. We checked out a new place called Spa Tisari. It was really nice. Chad watched all the kids while we were getting pampered. Great job, Mr. Mom! We had a yummy lunch at the Fish Market at the Lake at Mission Viejo, too. The end of our day couldn't have been better. We watched the season premiere of LOST! Oh my gosh, Season 3 is going to be GOOD! It was a great day.

Call him Captain! I am thrilled and proud to announce that Chad passed the 3rd and final portion of his Captain's Test! The Chief called Chad this morning to congratulate him. And the Chief said it was his honor to contact the guy who placed #1 on the list! (I have to brag about him - Chad was also #1 on the Engineer's and Firefighter's lists!) Thank you all for your support and prayers. It was a long, sometimes frustrating, drawn-out process. But it all paid off, thank goodness. We are so excited for him! Chad will probably be promoted in November. Look for updates and pictures here soon.
